DataNFT - AppleID & DataGuard

The concept revolves around a user-centric approach where individuals pay for their data to create a data NFT and gain digital ownership. Users can then decide whether to sell or maintain full ownership within an account structure, akin to an Apple ID. Automatic cookie blocking enhances privacy, and users are empowered to transfer their data to third parties for advertising purposes at a fixed price, ensuring control over their own data. The option to buy back data at any time halts tracking, providing users with ongoing control. I opted for Apple for ease of implementation, leveraging their operating system.

Challenges

  1. Integration within AppleID: The idea is based of a bigger accessible account like AppleID. To integrate this into a already big based account can be challenging

  2. Data safety: This solution is for new data entering the web, putting a DataNFT safety around already sold data is a challenging case.

  3. Blockchain without mining:Putting a DataNFT on the blockchain but making it unable to be mined or bought by crypto was a challenge to avoid. I Choose for Fiat Payment to avoid this issue.

How it Works

  1. AppleID account

  • Making an AppleID account: The user when setting up their new Iphone, wil be asked to make an AppleID. This ID now acts as a account on the blockchain. Recording al user's data activity.

  • Data preferences: The user can give their preferences on how they would like to treat their Data: Never sold, Only sold when asked, Always sold.

  • Ownership of your data: When making this AppleID, your preferences are documented in the blockchain. And any activity regarding you data wil be kept save using a Smart-contract with your preferences stated. This way you can take back ownership of your own data.

  1. Buying and selling data

  • Selling data: With the right preferences, the user will open an app and wil be asked if the app can use their data. It will be bought from them for a small amount ($0,40).

  • Buying back your Data: DataLeak? Or lost trust in a company? AppleID allows you to always buy back your data. From that moment on you pay the $0.40 back and the company can no longer use your data. This agreement will be guarded by the Smart-contract.

  1. Interface

  • Settings: In the settings of your Iphone the user will be able to see which apps have acces to their data, their data history and change their preferences.

Results

It's frustrating that our online data is exposed to everyone. Illegal data selling and intrusive cookies are rampant. Unlike the offline world with ID protections, our online data lacks a secure barrier.

In response, I worked on a concept where you're the digital owner of your data until permission is given. This eliminates concerns about filling out forms online and avoids awkward situations with delivery personnel.

The future of the digital world is all about digital ownership.
